Do you ever go to the chemist to have a prescription filled and wonder why it takes so long ?
I do.
I know about the paperwork involved and the fact that you have to get the right medicine.
What I do not understand is the time involved for this in some cases.
I was in the National Pharmacies on Glen Osmond Rd this week at about 11.30 and was told there would be a 20 minute wait.
Did they appear busy at the time ... well .... no
The 2 chemists were behind the counter with the assistants and a delivery person having a wonderful conversation and reading the newspaper.
Fast forward 10 minutes and one chemist has disappeared and the other chemist is doing what you may ask , yes , reading the paper.
The chemist then noticed me staring straight at him , closed his paper in a none too subtle manner and began to fill the prescriptions.
When he filled the first prescription , not mine , he acknowledges to his minion of a shop assistant by slamming the basket with the prescription on the back counter and at the sound she turns around and calls out the customers name and not a word was spoken by him.
Then after a couple of minutes , the chemist slams another basket on the counter and at the sound the shop assistant turns around and my prescription was ready.
So what is my point on customer service from this experience.
- If you want to read the paper and not serve the customers make sure the customer cannot see you.
- The Chemist could have said Joyce ( just picked the name ) Mr or Mrs Smiths prescription is ready not get her to react from slamming the basket down.
- It costs nothing to smile and be a bit happier and your employees may be more productive with a bit of positive communication
