Borders Rundle Mall

When I go shopping I enjoy good customer service and today I must acknowledge  Borders  Books  in Rundle Mall. I was went there this morning and selected 2 books and then went to the register ( queue behind the sign ) and then went to the counter to be served. I remarked to the assistant  that  I  had made a habit of always forgetting  my discount vouchers when shopping at Borders. This weeks voucher was buy 3 books and receive 25%  off. The assistant then said if i would like to purchase  another book she would go the manager and see whether she would get me the discount. Now this woman did not have to do this and go the extra mile ,but she did , showed good customer service , went to try and get the extra sale and was very pleasant. Monday morning at 9.30 is not the ideal time for peak service so for today we should acknowledge a shop assistant that tried to go the extra mile.

Are You Open For Business ?

Yes it is cold at the moment. However that does not mean you should look like you are not open. Do you have the doors open ? Closed doors means customers will and do walk straight past you. Are you sitting inside huddled in behind the counter , this might sound brutal but if you are cold do some work . What are you wearing ? I went into a shop the other day and the person who served me had a big thick jacket on and really gave the impression that he was about to leave for the snow not serving in a retail environment. Remember you have to be open for business , lights on , and dressed for business before you can do business.

Stock Levels Also Equals Service

Having a hard time in business at the moment in retail. Sales not quiet where you would like them to be. If you think the solution to this is to cut back on general stock levels then you are WRONG. You then enter the spiral down especially if you cut down on your core items that are needed to run your business. Look at ways to promote your business to get your sales up  , flyers , advertising  , etc Cut back on unnecessary staff if you are quiet. If however you cut back on essential lines or stock that is visually obvious to your customers , think gaps in your store , gaps in your fridges , saying to customers " No I don't have that " and you reply " Yes I used to but it does not sell " then customer service and sales are walking out the door along with the customers. Also don't be too afraid to get some help.
